Prithveen Rajan made a comeback to single seater formula racing after ten years making it to the podium in two races including a win!

2020 has been a challenging year in a manner unprecedented owing to the Covid-19 pandemic. The world was under complete lock down while businesses took a hit, sporting events were cancelled and to top it all, the Olympics, the greatest multi discipline sporting event, symbolising the united spirit of humanity beyond man made boundaries and divisions stood cancelled.

Towards the end of the year, amidst a nationwide restoration of normalcy, I was approached by a team to take part in the National Championship in the Formula LGB 1300 category. I was more than happy to be part of a collective force in the sport’s resumption in our country after the unforeseen break, signing up for a drive with Kolkata Joba Racing team, backed by Ortho-One Orthopaedic Speciality Centre (Sports Medicine Partner), Chettinad Sporting (Race Tuner) and Orygen (Energy Bar Partner)

I dived right back into the thick of competition, bagging two good results in the last round of the championship, a 3rd and 1st place finish. It’s been a great way to sign off for 2020. Wishing everyone a great 2021 and hoping those affected by Covid are on path to recovery

Tennis Elbow

"Though this condition is known as Tennis Elbow, this is not commonly seen in Tennis Players. It is also termed as elbow lateral epicondylitis. All age groups go through Tennis Elbow, especially the working class. It can occur either due to a single injury or repetitive work pattern. Usually one has pain along the outer aspect of the elbow (lateral epicondyle of the elbow). It occurs due to inflammation of the extensor carpi radialis brevis tendon. During the acute inflammatory phase, it is always advisable to take adequate rest with anti-inflammatory medications.  Unfortunately, majority of the population do neglect treatment and continue working in spite of the pain.  At one point of time the pain will become more severe and non-responsive to medication, but 60 percentage of initial pain will get healed completely over a period of one year.

Patients not responding to anti-inflammatory medication may need steroid injections at the site of inflammation.

Before using steroid injection, one must be aware of its pros and cons.  It is the duty of the practitioner to make the patient aware of  steroid injection and its benefits.  If epicondylitis progresses to an advanced stage,  it may result in complete or partial tear of the ECRB. In such cases, with partial tear, there is a definite role for PRP  (platelet rich plasma ) injections which yield complete relief in 50% of cases.

Complete tear may fail to heal by itself and necessitates repair of the ECRB tendon to the bone followed by a structured Physiotherapy to yield complete functional outcome" says Dr. M. Shyam Sundar of Ortho-One, a Specialist in Shoulder & Elbow Surgery, Joint Replacement, Sports Medicine.

Calf Muscle Stretch: Simple But Effective

The calf muscle is the primary group of muscles which bears the weight of the entire body and enables us to stand erect. They are the most active muscles helping our daily activity and tend to get tight.  Women who stand and work in the kitchen for long hours often get calf muscle pain. As the muscle works both at the foot and knee, it can cause pain. Performing calf stretch regularly will be a preventive way to avoid such problems.

Selecting the correct method, correct dosage of exercise is also the key for obtaining good results. When the stretch is done, there will be a sense of stretch followed by pain and it will be due to the stretching of the muscle.

The body has to be held in that position where you feel the stretch and you can count till 20.  Perform 5 times of these stretch exercises in a session and during the day.

This is recommended for people facing knee pain, foot pain, and sometimes back pain. It is also applicable for those who work in a standing position for long hours, and also for those who walk a lot, regular Gym goers, Sports athletes etc.

Mr.Ganesan - HOD of our Physiotherapy Dept recommends these simple exercises for everyone.

Remedies For Rheumatoid Arthritis

Inflammation in a joint is called arthritis. The inflammation will result in warmth, swelling, redness and pain inside the joint. Rheumatoid arthritis is different from other types of arthritis in one way. It affects joints on both sides of the body, such as both hands, both wrists or both knees. This symmetry helps to set it apart from other types of arthritis. RA can also affect the skin, eyes, lungs, heart, blood, or nerves.

http://www.ortho-one.in/arthritis/#Rheumatoid-Arthritis

What are the symptoms of RA?
The warning signs of RA are:
Joint pain and swelling
Stiffness in the joints after sitting for a long time and especially in the morning
Fatigue
Rheumatoid arthritis affects everyone differently. For some, joint symptoms develop gradually over several years. In others, it may come on quickly. Some people may have rheumatoid arthritis for a short duration of time and then not have any symptoms.
Who gets RA?
Anyone can get RA. The disease is two to three times more common in women than in men, but men tend to have more severe symptoms. It usually starts in middle age. But young children and the elderly also can get it.
What are the causes of RA?
Doctors don’t know the exact cause. Something seems to trigger the immune system to attack the joints and sometimes the other organs. Few experts have a thought that a virus or bacteria may trigger changes in the immune system, causing it to attack the joints.. Certain genetic patterns may make some people more likely to get RA than others.
How Is RA Treated?
The different treatment options for RA include medications, rest and exercise and in some cases, surgery to correct the joint damage. The treatment will be given by considering several things, including the patient’s age,  health, medical history, and how severe the case is. Many rheumatoid arthritis medications can reduce joint pain, swelling, and inflammation.

Treatment For Disc Prolapse

A prolapsed disc frequently causes extreme lower back agony. The circle regularly pushes on a nerve root which can bring about torment and different side effects in a leg. As a rule, the indications back off more than half a month. The typical guidance is to do ordinary exercises however much as could reasonably be expected. Painkillers may offer assistance. Physical medicines, for example, spinal control may likewise offer assistance. Surgery might be a choice if the manifestations hold on.

http://www.ortho-one.in/disc-prolapse/

CAUSES
Falling from a huge stature and arriving on your posterior. This can transmit huge compel over the spine. In the event that the drive is sufficiently solid, either a vertebra (bone) can crack, or an intervertebral plate can break.
Bending advances places generous weight on the intervertebral plates. In the event that you curve and endeavor to lift a protest which is too overwhelming, this constrain may bring about a plate to break.
Intervertebral circles can likewise crack therefore of debilitating external strands of the plate. This is more often than not because of monotonous minor wounds which develop after some time. This harm may happen with maturing, inherited variables, work-or entertainment related exercises. Frequently there is no undeniable motivation behind why such a procedure ought to have happened. At that point sooner or later you may lift something, contort or twist in a way which puts enough weight on the circle to make it break through its debilitated external filaments.
DIAGNOSIS
Diagnosing a prolapsed plate starts with your authority taking a total history of the issue. This is frequently finished by an applicable physical examination.
A distinct conclusion is made by radiological examinations. CT sweeps will for the most part uncover critical circle prolepses, however these are frequently not the most solid tests.
A MRI sweep is the most exact test, however little prolepses might be missed, especially as the majority of these examinations are performed while you are lying level - this spots less weight on the plate and may indicate less swelling than when you are sitting.
TREATMENT
Unless there is proof of critical spinal line or nerve root pressure or disabled capacity, intense circle prolapsed are quite often treated conservatively in the primary occurrence. A blend of calming and paracetamol-based prescriptions is generally suggested, together with a program of physiotherapy, and some of the time hydrotherapy and Pilates.
The treatment offered to every individual will be custom fitted to their clinical introduction, radiological discoveries, and different conditions.

Get Permanent Relief From Arthritis

In recent times, we might have been hearing the term Arthritis, but we might not have known what exactly, Arthritis is.

What is Arthritis?
Arthritis is a term often used to mean any disorder that affects joints.

Symptoms
Symptoms generally include joint pain and stiffness. Other symptoms may include redness, warmth, swelling, and decreased range of motion of the affected joints.

As of today, there has been no cure identified for rheumatic diseases. Research carried out in this area suggests that though there are no cures, the condition can be controlled. Treatment of arthritis may vary from individual to individual. Depending on the type, severity and impact of the disease, treatment has to be tailored to suit every individual. On discussion with experienced doctors, the risk and benefits of each treatment method can be analyzed. Experienced doctors at Ortho One at Coimbatore, India can give you best results within a short span of time.

Medication for Arthritis:

Inflammatory arthritis can be treated by using drugs. The sooner the patient starts the treatment, the better. Taking quick action on inflammatory arthritis can reduce the damage caused to the bones and joints.

Therapy through drugs can be divided into two categories:
  • Drugs that treat the symptoms (stiffness and pain) of arthritis
  • Drugs that can suppress the effects of inflammation, reducing progression of the disease.
To our luck, there’s no treatment in the world that can produce no side effects. Side effects in the treatment of arthritis using medication can be minor, and rarely serious. Consulting with rheumatology consultants can make it easy to treat the disease.

What are the possible medications for arthritis?
  • Painkillers: The most commonly used painkiller is paracetamol. They can suppress the pain, but cannot give you long term relief.
  • Steroids and NSAIDS (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs): These are highly effective. They are used in the combination with analgesics. They are mostly prescribed in the cases of inflammation as they reduce swelling, stiffness, and pain. They are also available as gels and injections. NSAIDS are used with caution as they can produce heart attacks, strokes, and also affect important organs.
What are the medications for Inflammation?

DMARDS (Disease Modifying Anti-Rheumatic Drugs): It helps suppress the inflammation, and also helps in treating the cause of the disease. They are mostly used in the treatment of inflammatory types of arthritis, and connecting tissue diseases. They can be used safely when used for short durations.

What are the Physical Therapies for Arthritis?

Several physical therapies are recommended, a few of them are:
  •  Hydrotherapy: Regular Exercise in a warm pool of water can provide you enough support and can avoid putting pressure on the joints.
  •  Occupational Therapy: These Advices on how to manage daily tasks without adding pressure to the joints.
  •  Physiotherapy: This helps with general fitness as well. Exercises are tailored to the patient's needs, along with usage of heat packs, and ice to help reduce pain.
  • Surgery in Treatment of Arthritis: Surgery for arthritis has become a common procedure. If the damage caused to the joint is severe or treatments through other measures fail, surgery is the option. They are very simple procedures called keyhole surgery, where the joint needn’t be opened up.
Ortho One Orthopedic Specialty Center offers best Arthritis Treatment in Tamilnadu with the help of dedicated team of doctors and other staff.
